Kamisamanou.net

I mentioned at one point that Kamisamanou.net would be moving to Google’s servers. Furthermore, I metioned that it would end up on Blogger. I have to retract that second statement though, as I like Wordpress too much. I will also be setting that blog at Kamisamanou.com and reserve Kamisamanou.net for everything else.

Dreaming

I just recently read a review of the HTC Hero and they spent a lot of time downplaying the Dream. The poster’s opinions generaly negative toward the Dream and he looked at the Hero as a very big improvement. I personally like the Dream’s size and physical hardware are all very good in my opinion. I also find that the OS and user interface are very quick and responsive. It all looks very beautiful despite the lack of integration between the different apps and the UI. I wanted this phone merely for the integration with Google and it has met all of my expectations in that regard. I have only a single dislike, and that is the sucky dialer buttons. I think that those buttons are to small and oddly space. The keyboard is good in all of its renditions, but I enjoy the version of the soft touch keyboard that appears when you turn on the orientation feature, hold the phone horizontally, and touch the typing area with the screen over the physical keyboard. The battery life for the phone is pretty amazing with the absurdly bright screen dimmed a bit and I don’t even have to turn off the wifi. Overall, the phone is pretty amazing, especially when you consider that I typed this entire post on the phone forgetting the computer was right next to me.

The College Life

Today my brother and I went to Cookeville Bicycles to get some information on restoring a bike he found in the woods and so began our evening. Afterward, I casually made my way down Willow Ave. until I came upon Tennessee Tech University. I had lived just off campus before, so I started to circle the university to find the house I remembered so well. I made it a thousand feet from my most recent turn when I saw some people exiting a building with the name Christ on it. This excited me as I began to hope that I could get a college student’s perspective on the school, and not only a student’s, but a Christian’s. What followed was an awesome time of praise and worship, an excellent message, and the type of fellowship you can only get at a college. I learned many things about the college afterwards, but I believe the most important thing to hit my ears was this:

“At any given moment, one is either sacrificing the world for God, or God for the world.”

Checked Out!

For the first time since I started, I was able to checkout via svn all the songbird files and Album View files I needed. I just finished doing so and will sleep while my computer downloads Final Fantasy IV: Echoes of Betrayal, Light of Redemption from http://ff4.ocremix.org

Run, Fedora, Run

More good news! Fedora 11 is booting and halting faster than ever. I will be getting started on some development stuff tonight after I transfer all of my old documents off of my backup media to my computer.

On a completely different note, I just got Curb Appeal by Sintax.the.terrific from SphereofHipHop.com!

Fedora 11 is Almost Heaven

I installed Fedora 11 last night, hooked it up to a wired connection and ran some updates. When I woke up this morning, I saw a message saying I needed additional firmware to make some hardware work correctly. I clicked on the install button, waited a moment(nothing happened), and rebooted my lappy to find that my BCM4318 Air Force One b/g wireless adapter had been installed without any of the usual trickery I have had to do for the last couple of years. The only thing wrong was my grainy, discoloured display, which I fixed once again.

Freedom

So for a few short days, I am free from classes. What that means is that I am going to spend more time doing things. I plan on getting Fedora 11 installed this weekend. Upgrading to the new distro will allow me to post the next rendition of the BCM4318 Guide and will give me a fresh start that I hope will help me as I work on developement of the Album View Songbird extension. I am working alot, but I expect a little bit of free time toward the beginning of each week. Also, this is the last year that Kamisamanou.net will be hosted on it’s own servers. This website uses a fairly small amount of bandwith and starting in June of 2010, www.kamisamanou.net will take you to what is currently an unusable website and blog hosted by Google. Oh well, time for bed.

Uhh

This is just a quick post to shed a little bit of light on the somewhat dormant Kamisamanou.net

The BCM4318 wireless b/g Guide will be updated with instructions for use on Fedora 11. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find the time to move to F11 due to school. With that in mind, please remember that one “should” be able to follow the directions for Fedora 10 expecting nothing more than maybe a few moved buttons.

I am free from school as of Wed. the 22nd. I will be busy from sunrise to sunset, but I hope to install Fedora 11 on Thursday.

With Fedora 11 I am hoping to achieve greater connection stability, since my connections, both wired and wireless seem to drop during updates, svn checkouts, bittorrent downloads, etc. if the web browser is not being used. The point of mentioning this desire has actually been hinted at already: I hope to be able to checkout and commit to the svn repository for the Album View mediapage extension for Songbird. This will allow me to finally do some real work on the extension and hopefully between my athetics and moshy’s mechanics upgrades, we’ll be able to release a worthwhile version of the extension in the next few months.

Fedora 11 Delayed

Unfortunately, after the filing of many critical bugs, the Fedora Project was forced to delay the release of Fedora 11. This now means that the new version will come out on the second of June and that my computer probably won’t see it until the sixth of June.
