Exuberance is evident

Yes, I am extremely happy. If I wasn’t, I would take the time to post about it. Today I came to the knowledge that Kamisamanou.net will not be going down. Immediately after I write this post, I am removing the redirect that sends people to that pathetic Google page. This also means my docs will be back online for Fedora…which is releasing version 9 in 20 days. I don’t have the time now, Fedora 9 releases while I’m on break and I will have the docs up for that version as soon as possible. Thanks to all of you who have read my website and I hope to see Kamisamanou.net develop even further in the next two years.

Docs-olete

I have been quite slow getting the docs up lately and I must regrettable say I am removing them. Most of them point to stuff on the *.kamisamanou.net/ server and I haven’t the minutes to spare to pull them off and update my docs.

The Early Bird gets Wormed

Hats off to all of you who were blindly purchased a huge collection of HD-DVDs and players to watch them on. I never bought either player. I waited, but not for the reason most think. I was/am to poor to afford one. It seems that being a poor geek for once wasn’t a burden, but a blessing and for it I am thankful. If you haven’t figured out what I’m talking about**Warning: Overused comment ahead**, Betamax’s creater actually won with their Blu-ray format and HD-DVD is obselete. Below is a fictional list of reasons why:

  • While both were HiDef, Blu-ray was HiDeffier
  • Blu-ray solved the DVD acronym problem(Digital V**** Disc)
  • Everyone felt sorry for Sony and their Betamax format
  • No one cares that I wanted HDDVD to win.

So everybody go out and get a Blu-ray player and welcome yourself to the next generation of digital media.

But not a PS3

Whoops

It appears that I have a new tradition. So far, I have wiped my hard drive (by accident) one time each semester. I am actually writing this post from my freshly updated reinstated notebook. I am, once again running Fedora 8. I got the wireless up in under 5 minutes courtesy of the directions here. The worst part was the updating involved–a total of 313 updates were required to bring my system up to speed. I find that I’m getting pretty good at this(installing the Fedora x OS) shaving time off with every attempt. I think I might actually time myself when Fedora 9 comes out.

Gas Jumps and So Does My Work-load

As many may have noticed, gas went up rather sharply here a few days ago. This increase, due to higher oil prices, was highly unwelcome by many including myself. One thing I didn’t notice, however, was that it would hurt me at more than just the pump.

I work at a Burger King in the wonderful state of Tennesse. I am the IT Manager. This position of mine means that I am responsible for maintenance of all systems in the store in addition to the Management of the various shifts I run. When minimum wage went up, this created a lot of work for me as the prices of every item had to be check/changed. I hadn’t cared too much to do this task, after all, minimum wage wouldn’t go up for at least another year. But when the gas went up, I was handed a new sheet full of a 100 or more price changes and I realized what I never had before, the shipping companies are going to charge more, giving retail larger bills, resulting in price increases and unhappy customers. This effectively means that one may soon notice an increase in the price of items at Wal-Mart and other stores and more expensive shipping from online companies.

All of a sudden, it appears minimum wage hasn’t increased.

He lives!

Contrary to my lack of activity on the net, I am not dead. I’ve been up to my eyebrows in school and work and church and eating and sleeping and anything else that is necessary to my well-being. Besides letting you know this, I wanted to mention that I finally converted my parents to Firefox.

Google Mail at 6Gb….When?

I was just reading my mail when I noticed something I hadn’t seen before: My G-Mail account had 6313Mb of space. I was just wondering, if Google rolled this out recently, or if it had just built to this.

b43 or Ndiswrapper on F8

While moving everything over to my new location, someone asked me if I used the b43 or ndiswrapper set up for Fedora 8. The answer to that question is the b43 driver. In particular, I followed the instruction provided here.

What I’m Reading in Google Reader…

When comes to technology politics, most should know that I’m a dedicated fanatic of FLOSS. Many, however, may also know that I am likewise a fanatic of Google.

I like many a Google app. I currently use Analytics, Checkout, Reader, GMail, Docs & Spreadsheets, Calendar, Talk, iGoogle, News, Froogle, Notebook, Maps, and a bunch of stuff in Labs. Out of this list their is very little detail I would give in what I do, but I would definitely tell you what’s in my Reader.

  • xkcd.com (New!) - I just started reading this after seeing “Compiling”
  • Aptana :: Weblog - Gotta keep up to date on the project as best as I can.
  • FedoraNEWS.org - If you run Fedora, this is quite important.
  • Songbirdnest.com blogs - Tracking the ‘bird.
  • Sourceforge.net Frontpage News - I heard about aTunes through this feed.
  • User Interface Blog (New!) - I saw a digg post from this site, and decided to stay a while.
  • Featured Topics at Dream.in.Code - Yes, I am a programmer.
  • Kamisamanou.net - No, I’m not conceited! I like to test everything I create.

Those that say “New!” are feeds I just recently subscribed too, not new blogs.

I should add this to my blogroll
