Shuttleworth tips Ubuntu ‘Gutsy Gibbon’ plans

With the release of the next Ubuntu — version 7.04, aka “Feisty Fawn” — only days away, Mark Shuttleworth, the distribution’s leader, announced plans for the next version: “Gutsy Gibbon.”

Also, if you look at the last paragraph on the read link, you’ll notice a Fedora like philosophy being pumped into Gibbon. Guess its Gutsy after all?

ACT’s are gone

Yup! The ACT’s are now a thing of the past for me. I don’t have to study for them anymore. I still won’t get my grades for another 4 weeks, but that’s ok.

Also, on a side note. I kept seeing these amazing shoes on TV called Ecko Red. I really think there awesome and might be getting a pair. They’re actually called Phabulous, or something along those lines, but nonetheless, they are so cool.

ACT’s tomorrow

Well, tomorrow is the day I take the ACT’s. I’m about to enter a state of temporary reduced unconsciousness. It appears a few people are having trouble with the guide. One thing I can say is that this guide also assumes a fresh, untampered with, install of Fedora Core 6. I’m currently trying to help people figure out what’s wrong so I can write a troubleshooting section.

Not seeding today

Once again, I’ll be spending the entire day at church. This should be the last day that I do this since I won’t have to study for my ACT Test after this Saturday(My ACT prep is designed for Windows, my laptop only has Fedora.).

What I want to learn:

C/C++, PHP, Javascript, Ruby on Rails.

C/C++ Because I want to eventually be a developer, not just a web developer. I had, in the past, wanted to learn Java. I however, have learned of the bloat in Java and want to write apps that aren’t bloated.

PHP because I want to be able to design high quality backends to the XHTML/XML websites I will code in the future.

Javascript because I want to be able to do all of the AJAX stuff and interactive stuff.

Ruby on Rails because I just want to. I believe it also plays and intricate part in AJAX development.

If anyone is willing to apprentice me, or knows of any excellent tutorials for these languages, send me a digital transmission to kamisamanou@kamisamanou.net

Gaim Loses it’s Naim

Recently, due to pressure from AOL, Gaim was forced to rename itself to Pidgin. This is actually the third name-change, the first being from GTK+ AOL Instant Messenger to Gaim. Each name change has been an escape from legal trouble as AOL has been relentlessly, and secretly, suing different developers of Gaim/Pidgin. The frontman for Gaim/Pidgin was very adamant in saying that this was merely a name-change and that the next release would be Pidgin 2.0.0. Whether or not previous files will undergo re-branding has not been mentioned. It has also been said that derivatives that use the Gaim name, such as those released with certain *nix distributions, will probably hold the old name a little longer than the official file due to the promptness of the change and lack of earlier information.
