The 6Th installment of Fedora Core launches in 7 hours. As I have mentioned earlier, I will be downloading FC6 and mirroring the file on my own servers. The “file” I just mentioned is actually the .torrent file for the en-us branch. If you don’t have a bittorrent client, Azureus is the way to go.

Today was pretty good. I found a comical video on Youtube called Is Bush drinking again? My car is now at 239,xxx mi. I just bought Make A Move by Lost Prophets for 68¢ on AllOfMP3.com. Today went ok, I didn’t get all that I wanted to done. I did however get the bathroom clean. I had some sweet potato pie……I’ll probably make some tomorrow, or at least bake a few potatoes. Rembrandt’s was closed tonight, which is weird, I hope their still in business.

Yesterday went very well. It was my second day in a row closing front line over at the BK. I also managed to get **** **** ***(Information that mustn’t be revealed at this time) for next Friday. Unfortunately, I found that Songbird still is getting poached by XULRunner. I hope that they will fix that soon, maybe by version 0.4.
Today will consist of the usual, I’ll go to bed here soon and wake up at about 10:00am C?T. I will then proceed to do whatever I deem necessary and also set up the church for Sunday, go to Blue Aether, go to Rembrandts, then come back home, and hang out on the computer all night. Then tommorrow, about 22.5 hours from now, I’ll post anything about today that I found post-worthy.

With a full 1.0 release due for sometime(late?) next year, Songbird just entered version 0.2. New with this version are several bug-fixes(Not that pesky .wma bug though) and the bundling of AudioScrobbler, Shoutcast, and Wikipedia in the form of third party extensions. The cross-platform is now, according to them, fully developed with Windows utilizing VLC, Mac utilizing Quicktime, and Linux utilizing GStreamer. Other things that have changed since the 1.1b release are the improving of the video window and miniplayer in design. “Automagic” updates will bring you to the latest version. Support for extensions has been added/polished. Subscription to mp3 blogs also appears alongside many other unmentioned updates. On the downside, you can break the birdy’s legs quite easily if you dump a couple thousand songs into it, many web things are quite buggy, and the CPU usage is pretty heavy. The CPU usage gets worse under windows due to the way VLC is integrated into the Windows release. Mac and Linux are doing pretty good on the bugs side with resizing and dragging problems respectively. Sometimes Cmd+Q won’t put the birdy to rest on your Mac. In Linux it refuses to sing along to those .pls and .m3u files. There are still alot of things that have yet to be developed, one being CD Burning/Ripping, that will be messed with in later versions. As of this post, I have yet to find out if XUL Runner crashes under Windows, but I’ll run Songbird all night and tell you in the morning. Also, I can’t stress how important it is that you don’t depend on Songbird as your main media player. Until version 1.0 releases, Songbird is currently intended for developers and testers. For those who would like to retrieve the bird, you can get it at their website. If you don’t think your the type to mess with unstable technology, you might want something like Winamp.

The internet is under fire by big media companies who would prefer that it takes twice as long to load my website as say, Goo-tube(Youtube). They want to charge websites premiums to get traffic. So, if I can’t afford that premium, they slow me down. This is dangerous. It will hinder open-source development by making it harder for people to get their applications. It will hinder potential companies like Google who was nothing more than a class project in the beginning. Some of your favorite websites, may dissappear, because they can’t grow due to horrible loading times resulting from there inability to pay the fees necessary. Do your part. This is not a joke. The Senate will soon vote on whether or not the internet will be destroyed as we know it. Save the internet

Well, thankfully the electricity came back on. We just got through an electrical blackout that lasted for 30min-1hour. I was kinda bummed when it went out. Though my laptop was fully charged, my broadband modem wasn’t operational(I’ll have to get a real cheap generator for the next time) so I was unable to get online. However, I just wanted to say that too often we take electricity for granted(why is this word always pronounced “gra nit”) and that we should be grateful, and every time our alarm goes off, or that light bulb responds to the flip of a switch, thank God for allowing it to happen.

In a story on how McDonald’s passed out spy-ware ridden mp3 players one person made the following comment on Digg:
“HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN?????” (-6 diggs)
Now, the funny part was the reply to that comment:
“Well, it happens when you hit that key on the left-hand side of your keyboard that says “Caps Lock.” If you push it again that should take care of it.” (58 diggs)
For those who don’t know, typing in all caps indicates shouting and is very rude. Do not type in all caps unless you want to be called a jerk, or just look stupid like the above guy.

If you’ve come here via the intro page of Kamisamanou.net, you might have seen the “Day of DRM” banner(Which will be there till the end of October), and should know what DRM is. If not, go to http://www.kamisamanou.net and click on it and become smarter.
Now, though DefectiveByDesign.org does list places to get DRM-free music legally, they don’t mention the best of them all, AllOfMP3.com. This website lets you legally(for now) download music from artist such as Linkin Park, Green Day, and many others in both mainstream and christian genres. The awesome thing about this site vs. Napster, iTunes, and others is that one, all the music is DRM-free(when you buy it, it’s yours, no questions asked.), and two, it allowes encoding from low quality all the way up to CD quality(or near CD quality if the album isn’t available in CD quality), wiping all other music services on the ground(Yes, it’s true, that song you got off of iTunes is actually quite crappy in quality).
For all the Open-Source heads out there, I have great news. Every track is available in either OGG-only or FLAC and OGG formats. The website is pretty comprehensive, buy still doesn’t have everything.
As far as legality goes. The website is legal in both Russia and the United States. However, the extent of that legality is questionable. There are currently investigations being done in the U.S. to shut down AllOfMP3.com, however, as of the present, they are unable to find anything illegal about it.
